Redding Bicyclist Injured in Hit-and-Run
Officers of the Redding Police Department (RPD) reported a hit-and-run accident on the morning of Thursday, May 23, 2019. According to reports, the collision involved a cyclist and an SUV and left one person with significant injuries. The identity of the injured cyclist has not been reported, but reports did indicate that the individual was an older man who had been traveling with a large group of cyclists at the time of the collision. Updates on the man’s injuries have not been provided by medical officials. Additionally, the latest available information from CHP indicated that officers are still searching for the missing driver.
Crash Details
The accident took place at about 8:05 a.m. on Auditorium Drive in the area of Turtle Bay close to the Sundial Bridge Drive intersection. The cyclist had been traveling on Auditorium Drive with a local group of cyclists who regularly ride together in the area. Accident witnesses told reporters that the group was full of experienced cyclists.
Reports indicated that an SUV had been driving west on Highway 44 and exited the highway using the Sundial Bridge Drive junction. After exiting the highway, witnesses say that the SUV struck one of the cyclists, knocking him to the asphalt. The SUV then drove away from the scene of the collision without stopping to check on the injured cyclist.
Medical personnel were called to the crash site right away. Upon arriving, they discovered that the cyclist had suffered moderate injuries to his arm and leg. Whether or not the man was transported to a hospital to receive medical attention was not reported.
Recovering from a Collision Injury
After suffering an injury in an accident involving a vehicle, people often face a long road to recovery. Not only can this process be painful, but injury recovery is often expensive as well. Usually, suffering an accident injury means having to pay for ambulance rides, hospital stays, surgeries, medications, physical therapy, and other costs. On top of this, the recovery process can make it difficult to continue working and causes either a temporary or permanent loss of income.
While these concerns can seem overwhelming, many injured people can get help by claiming compensation with the help of a Redding bicycle accident attorney. Filing a personal injury claim can be complicated, but an experienced attorney will be able to help you receive the full amount of repayment that you deserve for the damages you have suffered.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
In cases such as this one, where it may not be possible to hold a negligent driver responsible for the damages they’ve caused, people are often worried over how they will be able to obtain fair compensation. When this happens, injured parties are often able to claim compensation from their own insurers through a specific part of their policy called “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.” This coverage is not legally required in California, so not everyone can file a claim this way. Additionally, the amount of compensation available varies widely depending on your particular policy. To make sure you receive the full amount you deserve from your insurer, it is always best to have advice from a Redding personal injury lawyer first.
