I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton car accident lawyer. A rollover accident occurred near Stockton during the morning hours of Saturday, July 29, 2017. The accident, unfortunately, caused one victim to be hospitalized for their injuries.
What Happened?
An unidentified vehicle was traveling along West Lane in the vicinity of Eight Mile Road at approximately 6:05 am. For unknown reasons, the car overturned and came to a rest in a ditch. Medical personnel and officers from the Stockton Police Department were dispatched to the scene of the accident. When they arrived, they located one injured victim. The victim was taken to the Lodi Memorial Hospital for treatment. Immediate details were not released regarding the extent of injuries sustained or the condition of the victim.
Rollover Accidents
Some of the common causes of rollover accidents typically result from a motorist oversteering or overcorrecting their vehicle when they are attempting to avoid a collision. When driving, it is highly important to always wear your seat belt, follow the posted speed limits and stay in your lane to ensure the safety of yourself and others along the roadway. It is also best to avoid texting and driving and drinking and driving at all costs.
Rollover Accident Statistics
A Stockton Accident Statistic Report concluded that there were approximately 2,453 accidents in 2016 alone. Of these accidents, there were about 18 (1.1%) rollover crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this type of accident is deemed as the most dangerous because it tends to cause the most traffic fatalities. The main concern of safety for these collisions stems from the protection of vehicle occupants. A victim may be ejected from a vehicle, tossed inside while the vehicle is in motion or the air bags may not deploy to protect the occupants inside. The impact from these accidents can cause a vehicle to sustain a crushed roof, which may caused a victim to suffer severe head or brain injuries, broken bones and spinal cord injuries. A report by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) states that there is a high need for vehicles built with stronger roofs to protect victims in these types of accidents from being ejected through the windows, windshield or doors of a vehicle.
