Rollover Crash Near McKinleyville Results in Major Injuries
On Friday, July 10, 2020, one person was severely hurt during a rollover crash near McKinleyville. California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the accident occurred on a major highway and only involved one vehicle. Updates on the injured party have not been released and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Collision Information
The incident happened at around 4:43 on Highway 101 close to the exit for Murray Road near the local airport. Details regarding the events leading up to the collision haven’t been reported. However, a white Toyota pickup truck reportedly overturned multiple times, coming to a stop between the highway and exit. Photos taken at the scene show major damage to the front end and roof of the vehicle.
Response
CHP dispatched a team of emergency response personnel to the accident site right after it was reported. When they arrived, Arcata Fire District staff discovered that the pickup truck driver was trapped inside of his wrecked vehicle. Responders used the jaws of life to cut the vehicle chassis and extricate the driver. After extrication, the driver was placed on an ambulance and rushed to a local hospital.
Rollover Accidents and Liability
Rollover crashes are very dangerous, especially with bottom-heavy vehicles like SUVs and pickup trucks. These kinds of accidents are shown by the NHTSA to have a disproportionately high rate of fatal and severe injuries. A key reason for the danger of rollovers is the risk of “roof crush injuries.”
These injuries happen when the roof of a vehicle isn’t able to withstand an impact and intrudes into the cabin. Often, this leaves drivers and/or passengers with severe trauma that could have been prevented if the vehicle was designed more carefully or built of stronger materials. For this reason, the manufacturers of vehicles involved in rollover accidents are frequently considered negligent parties to accidents and can be held financially responsible for damages.
However, it’s critical that your lawyer is able to inspect the wrecked vehicle to determine whether or not the manufacturer may be liable. To make sure you are able to hold these companies accountable, it’s necessary to preserve the wrecked vehicle as evidence for your case.
Getting Help
Crash survivors face a number of challenges. Recovering your physical health can be stressful as well as painful. Furthermore, accident injuries can be expensive. Not only do crash survivors incur medical bills, but they often lose the ability to work and earn an income either temporarily or permanently. Additionally, being in an accident can leave you without a means of transportation.
To recover compensation for these losses and more, the best thing to do is to call an attorney as soon as you can. An experienced personal injury lawyer can help you file an injury claim and obtain the payments you need to move forward with your life after a serious accident.
