Two Dead After Woodland Area Crash

California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported that a Woodland area crash left two people with fatal injuries on Friday, August 23, 2019. In addition to the two decedents, four more people reportedly suffered injuries during the fiery accident. The identities of the two decedents are currently being withheld by the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department pending the notification of their families. Additionally, this accident remains under investigation by CHP.

Crash Information

The accident took place in the early morning at around 12:17 a.m. CHP Woodland Spokesman Rodney Fitzhugh reported that a 28-year-old Southern California man was driving a 2019 International box truck. The man had stopped his vehicle on the right-hand shoulder of the northbound side of Highway Interstate 5 just south of County Road 95 in the area of Zamora. As the man was pulling his truck away from the shoulder to re-enter the highway, his rear-end was struck by a northbound 2006 Ford SUV. Reports state that the SUV was being driven by a 58-year-old man who was also a resident of Southern California.

Fitzhugh stated that the collision caused both vehicles to catch fire. The fire eventually consumed both vehicles entirely.

Injuries

Tragically, two of the five people inside of the SUV were unable to exit the vehicle and passed away due to injuries sustained during the incident. The driver and two more passengers, who were identified as a 55-year-old woman and 11-year-old girl, all suffered major injuries and were rushed to the UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.

The truck driver reportedly suffered minor injuries during the accident. However, Fitzhugh indicated that his injuries did not require treatment at a hospital.

Investigation

While CHP is investigating further into possible causes of this accident, no suspected factors have been reported. Fitzhugh stated that drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to have been involved in the crash.
