Vallejo Woman Dies in Brentwood Crash
California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a Vallejo woman lost her life in a Bay Area car accident on Sunday, June 9, 2019. According to police, the crash involved only one vehicle and happened in the early morning. Reports indicated that one person was placed under arrest for DUI charges related to the collision before being taken to a hospital for emergency care. The woman has been identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office as 23-year-old Maria Granados of Vallejo. I’d like to send my sympathy and support to everyone who has lost a loved one because of this tragic auto accident.
Crash Details
CHP reports state that a 25-year-old Vallejo man had been driving on Lone Tree Way in Brentwood at about 5:00 a.m. when his vehicle, a black Nissan Sentra, suddenly swerved into the opposite traffic lane near the Adams Lane intersection. After swerving, the driver attempted to correct his vehicle, re-entering the correct lane. However, he overcorrected the vehicle and drove off the road before colliding with a nearby utility pole. Reports stated that the Nissan struck the pole head-on just outside of the westbound traffic lane.
Response
When police arrived at the accident site, they discovered two injured individuals. The passenger of the vehicle had sustained critical injuries. Tragically, responders could not help her and she was declared deceased on-site.
The 25-year-old Vallejo man was found with injuries of unspecified severity. He was arrested on charges of intoxicated driving leading to fatal injuries before being sent to the John Muir Medical Center to receive treatment. The man has since been discharged from the hospital and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
Investigation
According to CHP public information officer Brandon Correia, the 25-year-old suspected of DUI initially told emergency responders that a third party had been driving the Nissan and fled the scene of the accident on foot before police arrived. However, investigators searched the area and came to the conclusion that there were no other individuals involved in the collision.
CHP says that they are continuing their investigation into this accident. Officers have asked for any potential accident witnesses to report what they saw in order to aid in the investigation. Callers should get in touch with CHP at the non-emergency phone number (925) 546-4980.
