Yuba City Auto Accident Stats
I’m Ed Smith, a Yuba City car accident lawyer. While it offers a great community as well as easy access to both the Sacramento metropolitan area and scenic riverside getaways, Yuba County has also been the site of many auto accidents in recent years. This blog will examine Yuba County accidents in depth in order to better understand the dangers of driving in the area.
Accidents Overview
According to information compiled by researchers at UC Berkeley, Yuba County was the site of 2,046 injury-causing collisions during the seven-year stretch between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2016. Most often, these auto accidents only involved large trucks or passenger vehicles.
However, there were 127 bicycle accidents, 138 accidents involving pedestrians, and 214 motorcycle accidents, accounting for 6.2, 6.7, and 10.5 percent of injury-related car accidents in Yuba County respectively.
Additionally, 711 of these crashes occurred on state highways, while the remaining 1335 occurred on city roads. This means that about one-third of traumatic Yuba County collisions occur on state highways.
Collision Types
The plurality of the traumatic accidents that happened in Yuba County during this period were hit-object accidents. A total of 552 hit-object accidents accounted for around 27 percent of collisions. The next most common type of accident was rear-end accidents, with 438 auto accidents causing about 21 percent of collisions.
The following most common collisions types were broadside auto accidents at 19 percent, rollover accidents at 12 percent, and sideswipe accidents at 6 percent. The least common accident type in Yuba City was head-on accidents at around 5 percent.
Collision Severity
Collisions in Yuba County are relatively less fatal than those in neighboring Sacramento County. During the time period in question, 4.15 percent of Sacramento County injury accidents were fatal, while only 1.46 percent of Yuba County’s crashes involved fatalities.
However, non-fatal injuries sustained in accidents are more severe in Yuba than in Sacramento, with severe and visible injuries accounting for 41.79 percent of traumatic crashes in Yuba, while they only accounted for 32.39 percent in Sacramento.
Dangerous Violations
The most common type of traffic violation to result in a motor vehicle accident trauma in Yuba County during 2010-2016 was speedings violations. During that time, a total of 529 accidents primarily caused by speeding left people with traumatic injuries, accounting for about one-quarter of trauma-related collisions.
Improper turning caused almost as many auto accidents as speeding at 434 accidents accounting for 21 percent. After these two, the most frequent injury crash types were caused by right of way violations (13 percent), DUI (12.37 percent), and driving on the wrong side of the road (1.56 percent).
