Yuba City Hit-and-Run Fatally Injures Teen
On Monday, October 7, 2019, a local teenager was fatally injured during a Yuba City hit-and-run accident. The boy was identified by Sutter County authorities as a 13-year-old resident of Yuba City and a student at Franklin School. The Yuba City Police Department (YCPD) has indicated that the collision involved a single vehicle and a pedestrian and stated that the involved driver has been placed under arrest on charges including felony hit-and-run, driving under the influence, and child endangerment. The incident reportedly remains under investigation.
Collision Information
Shortly after 8:00 a.m., the 13-year-old boy had been walking on Franklin Road close to the intersection of Lindsey Lane. A 36-year-old Yuba City woman had been driving on Franklin with three of her children in the vehicle. The vehicle struck the teen and eventually drove away from the accident scene, leaving the boy behind.
Witnesses immediately contacted police to report the accident, and emergency responders were dispatched to the incident site. When officers arrived, they discovered that the teen had suffered a severe head injury and had him rushed to a nearby hospital to receive intensive care. Tragically, the boy passed away in hospital custody the following morning.
Police reportedly located the vehicle and driver in front of her home the same day the accident occurred. The woman is reportedly being held at the Sutter County Jail, where her bail is $100,000.
Recovering After a Fatal Crash
After losing somebody in a sudden accident, people are often overwhelmed by a series of complicated and intense emotions. The grieving process is complex and different for everybody, but it’s essential to seek the care and resources you need to cope with your emotions during such a traumatic time. Many people find it necessary to take some time off work or visit their family members to begin the process of emotional healing.
Families are also left in a difficult financial situation after their lives have been affected by such a tragedy. Often, deadly vehicle accidents leave families with steep medical expenses, and many are shocked to discover how costly funeral and burial services are. During such a difficult period, families deserve to have financial security. To recover payments for these personal and financial losses, families can file wrongful death cases against negligent parties and/or their insurance companies. By doing so, families can often recover for a wide range of damages, including medical costs, pain and suffering, and more.
Finding the Right Attorney
With wrongful death cases, it’s essential to have an attorney who you feel comfortable with and who you know has the right skills and experience to ensure you receive the compensation you and your loved ones deserve.
