Chico Crash Injures Several People
According to reports released by California Highway Patrol (CHP), several individuals suffered injuries during a multiple vehicle crash that happened in north Chico on Saturday, May 11, 2019. Minimal information was provided about the individuals who suffered trauma during this accident, but reports indicated that multiple people sustained severe trauma, including at least one elderly person. The accident involved two vehicles and took place on a local highway. CHP investigators say that they are looking into the collision in order to determine what factors were involved.
Accident Information
Police said that the accident occurred in the early afternoon. A white SUV had been merging onto the northbound side of Highway 99 off of Eaton Avenue. Reportedly, a northbound vehicle on 99 did not see the SUV merging and struck it from behind. The impact caused both of the vehicles to spin out and travel off of the roadway. After spinning out, one of the vehicles struck a tree head-on. Pictures of the crash site show major damage to the front end and driver’s side of the SUV.
Emergency staff was dispatched immediately to the accident scene. When they arrived, several people needed to be extricated from the wrecked vehicles. The number of people involved in the accident has not been reported, but there were at least two people in one vehicle and several in the other. Reportedly, none of the involved individuals suffered fatal trauma.
Investigation
As CHP is actively investigating this incident, no reports regarding suspected crash factors have been released. Rear-end accidents are one of the most common types of car accidents and can be caused by a wide variety of factors that include medical issues, distracted driving, operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, auto part defects, and more.
Another Recent Area Accident
This accident took place less than two weeks after another accident in the same location. The other collision occurred on Friday, May 3, 2019, and one person was left with fatal trauma during the accident. The collision involved an SUV and a large commercial truck and took place on northbound Highway 99 near Eaton Road. The semi truck was reportedly stopped at the junction when it was rear-ended by the SUV.
Accidents and Liability
When accidents happen, people who’ve suffered injuries are often able to claim financial compensation for their damages through filing personal injury claims against negligent parties. These parties are often reckless drivers, but can also include government entities, product manufacturers, and others. Negligent parties can be held liable for the cost of medical procedures, hospital rooms, and medications as well as lost wages, quality of life losses, and more.
