One Dead After Train Accident in Chico
On Wednesday, January 20, 2021, one person tragically suffered fatal trauma during a train accident in Chico. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office has not yet identified the decedent and are waiting to release his name until after his family is notified. Authorities have reported that the incident happened in the afternoon on the northern side of the city, and an investigation into what caused the accident is ongoing.

The incident happened at around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Kennedy and East Streets. Details about the events that took place before the accident have not been reported at this time, but officials indicated that the pedestrian was struck by a Union Pacific train. Responders at the scene of the crash determined that the pedestrian was critically injured, and the individual was officially pronounced deceased on-site. No occupants of the train or any other individuals were injured during the accident.
