One Individual Seriously Hurt In Fortuna Area Crash
On Friday, February 26, 2021, one person suffered serious injuries after being involved in a Fortuna area crash. The accident occurred in the early afternoon and involved a single passenger vehicle. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that only one individual was hospitalized as a result of this incident and that their officers are investigating what could have caused the crash.
Crash Information
According to CHP traffic reports, the crash happened at 1:30 p.m. on Highway 101 at mile marker 64 close to the Fernbridge exit just outside of Fortuna. Details regarding the events that led up to the collision haven’t been reported so far. However, police indicated that a dark green Ford Explorer was traveling on the highway when, for reasons that remain unknown, the vehicle overturned, eventually coming to a rest on its roof inside of the roadway.
Response agencies were dispatched out to the location after CHP was notified about the incident. At the crash scene, responders discovered that a single occupant of the Ford had sustained serious injuries and called an ambulance to the site. Responders reported that the injured party had to be extricated from the vehicle before they could be transported to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries was not mentioned in reports.
Investigation
So far, investigating officers have not concluded what factors could have played a role in this traumatic car crash. Furthermore, even solo-vehicle crashes can be caused by a number of factors. Additionally, a number of common auto accident factors aren’t controlled by the driver and may be the fault of a third party.
Rollover Collisions
According to statistics published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, rollover crashes are significantly more likely to result in serious and/or fatal injuries than the average car accident. While there are multiple factors that contribute to this, one of the main contributing factors is weak roofs. This issue is especially common with bottom-heavy vehicles like SUVs.
If a car’s roof is weak, it’s liable to crumple when the vehicle overturns, potentially causing “roof crush injuries,” which tend to be very serious. If this happens, it may be the case that the car’s roof wasn’t properly designed or built, meaning that the company responsible for manufacturing the car might be considered negligent and financially responsible for accident damages.
In order to hold these companies responsible, your attorney has to be able to prove the car’s roof was unsound. For this reason, collision survivors should remember to keep their wrecked car as evidence for their case.
