Pedestrian Killed During Vacaville Hit-and-Run
On Friday, January 15, 2021, one person lost his life after he was struck by a vehicle in a Vacaville hit-and-run car accident. Solano Area California Highway Patrol (CHP) has stated that the accident happened in the morning in a rural area and that officers are still searching for the missing vehicle and driver. The decedent was identified by the Solano County Sheriff’s Department as a 32-year-old man but are withholding his name until his family is notified. No other individuals were injured during the incident.
Crash Details
The accident happened at around 6:55 a.m. at the intersection of Robinson and Hartley roads off of Highway 505 in an unincorporated area on the very northern edge of the city. According to police, the pedestrian had been driving a Volkswagen when he pulled over to the side of the road in order to fix a mechanical issue with his car. As he was exiting the Volkswagen, the pedestrian was struck by a car driving north on Hartley Road. Directly after the crash, the second vehicle fled the area.
Response to Vacaville Hit-and-Run
Police were alerted to the accident shortly after it occurred and rushed officers to the site. When they reached the location, responders found the pedestrian lying on the ground with critical injuries. Sadly, the individual was pronounced deceased on-site.
Investigation
As officers continue to search for the driver and vehicle that were involved in this crash, no descriptions of either have been reported. Additionally, CHP urges anyone who may have information about the accident or the whereabouts of the missing driver to report what they know. Those looking to aid with the investigation are asked to reach out to Officer Ensley at (707) 428-2100.
Hit-and-Run Collisions and Financial Liability
Families affected by fatal accidents frequently face serious financial issues. In most cases, these families can file wrongful death claims against at-fault parties and are often able to obtain payments that afford them financial security in a traumatic time. However, with hit-and-run accidents, the at-fault party may not ever be located and therefore can’t be held responsible.
While police often do find and arrest hit-and-run drivers, families may still be able to obtain compensation even if the driver isn’t ever found. This can be accomplished through utilizing “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage,” an optional part of many California insurance policies.
However, the payments available to your family vary widely depending on the specific insurance policy. Furthermore, insurers may not offer the full amount you deserve. To ensure you receive fair compensation, it’s important to have an experienced Vacaville wrongful death lawyer on your side.
