Pedestrian Identified after Deadly Auto Accident in Red Bluff
On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of a woman who tragically passed away during an auto accident in Red Bluff. The decedent was identified as Brittainy Lamerill, a 24-year-old woman and Red Bluff resident. The Red Bluff Police Department (RBPD) indicated that the accident happened over a week prior on Friday, December 18, and involved a pedestrian and single vehicle. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Crash Information
The collision happened at around 4:30 p.m. on Walnut Street, close to the Bayles Avenue intersection. According to police, a 2007 Buick SUV was heading westbound on Walnut while Lamerill was walking in the area. For unknown reasons, the SUV struck Lamerill as she was walking. Further details about the circumstances that led up to this accident haven’t been provided.
The collision was reported to police immediately, and RBPD rushed emergency response officials to the scene. When they reached the site, medical responders discovered Lamerill was seriously hurt. Sadly, she passed away at the scene. The 51-year-old driver of the SUV was reportedly not injured during the crash.
Investigation
As police investigate possible causes of this crash, suspected factors haven’t been reported. Pedestrian collisions are often complicated incidents that happen because of more than one factor. Furthermore, many common pedestrian/auto accident factors include dangerously designed roads, lack of pedestrian infrastructure, malfunctioning vehicle parts, and more. In cases involving non-pedestrian, non-driver factors, outside parties such as government bodies and/or vehicle manufacturers may share liability for collision damages.
Private Accident Investigations are Important
The process of investigating a fatal pedestrian collision isn’t easy, and officers often have a difficult time fully understanding what took place when they are unable to interview decedents. In many cases, this means that investigating officers won’t uncover evidence that would otherwise be a critical part of a wrongful death case.
