Pedestrian Dies During Auto Accident in Grass Valley
On Friday, July 17, 2020, one person tragically passed away after being injured during an auto accident in Grass Valley. Local authorities identified the decedent as a 39-year-old woman from Grass Valley but have not yet released her name. California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that this accident happened in the afternoon and involved a work truck that crashed into a local building. In addition to the decedent, one other person suffered major injuries during the incident and remains in hospital custody at this time.
Crash Information
The accident took place just before 2:30 p.m. off of South Auburn Street. Police reported that a work truck driven by a 51-year-old man from North Highlands was exiting Highway 49 onto South Auburn Street when he apparently lost control of his vehicle. The truck struck a pedestrian before crashing into the side of Grass Valley Charter School.
Response
CHP, as well as personnel from the Grass Valley Fire Department, responded to the accident. At the crash scene, medical officials discovered that the pedestrian had received critical injuries. Sadly, she was pronounced deceased on-site. The driver of the work truck was found trapped in his vehicle, and firefighters used heavy machinery to perform an emergency extrication. CHP indicated that the man suffered multiple bone fractures and was driven via ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Investigation
CHP is reportedly at work investigating possible causes of this collision. However, no suspected factors have been confirmed in police reports. Police have stated that they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. Crashes such as this one can be caused by more than one factor and frequently involve causes that neither drivers nor pedestrians can control. These can include faulty car parts, dangerously designed roads, and more.
After fatal accidents, police can have a difficult time performing a thorough investigation because they aren’t able to interview the decedent. Because they are missing part of the picture, it’s possible that crucial evidence will go unnoticed. This is why it is important to reach out to an attorney who can conduct their own accident investigation. A skilled lawyer will be able to determine whether or not any negligence was involved in the accident.
