Two Suffer Severe Trauma After Benicia Bridge Car Accident
On Friday, March 26, 2021, two women were seriously injured during a Benicia Bridge car accident. Information from California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicates that the accident involved one vehicle and happened in the afternoon. Both occupants of the vehicle were hospitalized, and updates on their conditions remained unavailable at the time of reporting. Additionally, this accident is currently under CHP investigation.
Crash Details
The crash took place at about 2:34 p.m. on Highway Interstate 680 over the Carquinez Strait. According to police, a vehicle (make and model were not reported) veered into the side-rail of the bridge, causing major damage. The sequence of events that led up to the collision is unclear.
Response
After the crash occurred, witnesses contacted CHP, and a response team was immediately sent to the scene. On location, emergency personnel found that two women, both in their 50s, were trapped inside of the wrecked car. Benicia Fire Department (BFD) staff performed an emergency extrication in order to free the women from the wreckage.
After the extrication, paramedics determined that both vehicle occupants had sustained serious head injuries and had them transported in separate ambulances to the John Muir Health Trauma Center for emergency medical treatments.
Investigation
As police continue to conduct a full investigation into what could have caused the accident, reports have not mentioned any likely factors. Frequently, solo-vehicle accidents are more complicated than they appear and might involve more than a single cause. Furthermore, car accident causes are often things outside of the driver’s control. As an example, a vehicle may have had a faulty steering system or defective tires, leaving the driver unable to avoid a collision.
Recovering from Traumatic Brain Injuries
When vehicle occupants suffer a blow to the head, it is likely to result in a traumatic brain injury (TBI). TBIs can be very serious and can result in a wide range of symptoms, including confusion, seizures, paralysis, difficulty with language, numbness, loss of smell and/or taste, chronic migraines, and more. In many cases, TBIs require extensive medical care and have a major impact on survivors’ lives.
While there are many treatment options and recovery methods for those who’ve suffered a TBI, the necessary medical procedures can be very expensive. Furthermore, sustaining a TBI can leave you unable to work, possibly causing a sudden, serious loss of income. Together, these issues can leave people feeling unsure of how they will complete their recovery.
